Live Earth
Renewable Energy

Live Earth marks the beginning of a multi-year campaign led by the Alliance for Climate Protection in the US, The Climate Group and Stop Climate Chaos in the UK, and other international organizations, to drive individuals, corporations and governments to take immediate and lasting action to solve the climate crisis. Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore is the Chair of the Alliance for Climate Protection.
Live Earth ended with the crowd  going wild for "Message In A Bottle" as Kanye West and John Mayer joined The Police onstage for the final hurrah at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The event featured an impressive lineup, including Melissa Etheridge, KT Tunstall, Dave Matthews Band and Keith Urban. All the artists performed for free, passionate about the cause.
Roger Waters (founder of Pink Floyd), Kanye West, and The Police were incredible! The audience even did the wave a few times before the Police took the stage. You could feel the excitement, both for the music and the message. Al Gore hopes people are inspired to make personal changes in their lives and put pressure on political leaders to change policies on pollution. He maintains the event was more about raising consciousness and less about raising money.

Global warming, as you know, is caused by the "greenhouse effect". CO2 and other gasses reflect heat radiation back to the earth rather than letting it escape into space. My dad often yelled at me for leaving my window wide open in mid winter. He'd say: "What you trying to do, boy, heat the universe? A certain amount of global warming is a good thing. Indeed without heat from the sun our planet would be a frozen wasteland, life would be impossible, BUT the kind of "Global Warming" that Al Gore is talking about goes beyond the cozy comfort level.

Al Gore, and the rest of us, live on a tiny little space ship with limited resources. "Global Warming" is just a generalized label for the kinds of problems caused by runaway capitalism and corrupt leadership. Rather than creating new jobs in the renewable energy industry government leaders and large businesses encourage a non sustainable lifestyle. Our sun and our earth have worked together for over 200,000,000 years to produce and store our limited supply of oil and we have consumed half of that non-renewable resource in the last 100 years. It's true that the oil business has turned some millionaires into billionaires but how about the rest of us? Has planetary wealth increased. Buckminster Fuller who coined the phrase "...doing more with less" compared our fossil fuel economy to the starter motor of a car. Oil has helped get civilization off to a flying start but now it's time to run our world on a more sustainable fuel, and I'm not talking about gasoline.

Oil is no longer necessary to keep the wheels of civilizations turning. Old habits die hard and so will all the people and industries that have become dependent on non-renewable energy concentrates. Oil like sugar can is habit forming.

How can I get out of the rut I'm in, you ask?

All energy for life comes from the sun either directly or indirectly. Buckminster Fuller once said:... "we've wondered too far from the roots." I say it's time to come home. It's time to find our lost connection with the sun. It's time for: MTD Solar Heating
