Glazing Materials Experimental Lab
Now that we've done a little
research it's time to verify our research with some comprehensive testing and
some messing around in the laboratory. You can best develop an understanding of
the various glazing materials available by testing them yourself for heat
trapping ability, durability, insulating qualities etc. Not everyone will be
able to test every glazing material available, but together we should be able to
gather enough information to make an intelligent choice of the material that
will be best suited for our application. The materials to be tested should
include:
GLASS
Poly
Vinyl Chloride
LEXAN
Fiberglass Reinforced
Plastic
You'll need a good digital digital thermometer for almost all these experimental projects. The thermometer should have a range between 30 F and 300 F. You'll need to build a Hot Box to test glazing materials so you might want to get started with the hot box project first if you are having trouble figuring out what to do next. I know this must seem like a strange kind of school where everything is backwards, but I want you to think outside the box if you know what I mean. We'll talk about your discoveries later.
